The Gangster Cat Chronicles ®

A darkly comic, character-driven series set within a layered and controlled feline underworld, where ambition, power, and hidden structures collide.

The Gangster Cat Chronicles is a character-driven book series set within a concealed feline society operating beneath the surface of an ordinary English village, with a narrative that unfolds across multiple volumes.

This is not a singular world, but one defined by distinct layers and territorial, hierarchical,  governed by its own internal logic. Roles are understood, boundaries are observed, and authority is maintained through a balance of control, reputation, and strategic influence.

Within this structure, different factions and positions coexist—some visible, others operating with greater discretion creating a system where order is maintained, but never guaranteed.

Beneath that order lies an undercurrent of risk. The dynamics that hold this world together are also what make it volatile: power must be protected, alliances are conditional, and missteps can carry consequences beyond immediate control.

There are indications that this structure is part of something broader, less visible, more controlled, and which are not yet fully understood, elements of which begin to emerge as the series progresses.

At the centre of this world sits a leadership shaped not only by authority, but by unresolved history, threads that extend beyond what is immediately apparent.

Into this environment arrives Joey. He is ambitious, theatrical, and entirely out of his depth. His misplaced confidence and grand ambitions bring a strong comedic lens to a world that operates with far greater precision than he understands.

Alongside him, an older cat who recognises the risks he does not, navigating the same environment with a more informed awareness and an increasing concern for the consequences of his actions.

As Joey inserts himself into a structure he neither understands nor respects, what begins as misjudged bravado evolves into involvement in a far more complex and high-stakes game than he ever intended one that continues to unfold across the series.

The Gangster Cat Chronicles combines dark humour with layered world-building, with character arcs and underlying mysteries designed to develop across a multi-volume series.

About the Author

The Gangster Cat Chronicles began with a sustained breakdown in garden diplomacy.

Joey, a ginger and white Tom cat with outsized ambition, limited situational awareness and a fundamental lack of good sense, found himself in repeated standoffs with Luna, a far more composed, beautiful and territorial Bengal presence who treated incursions as a matter of principle rather than inconvenience. What followed was less a series of encounters and more an ongoing campaign, marked by tension, posturing, and many 3am standoffs.

In a desperate effort to restore order, a curfew was introduced by both owners to bring a temporary cessation to hostilities.  This fragile truce was aptly named by the author’s daughter,  as the Great Pawday Agreement. It held, to a degree, for a short time but the underlying dynamics remained: hierarchy, territory, and the quiet suggestion that there was more governing these interactions than instinct alone.

From those observations, a larger idea took shape, a structured,  world of cats operating beneath the surface, where power is contested, loyalties are fluid, and ambition rarely aligns with capability. What began as a domestic standoff evolved into a multi-layered narrative combining humour, tension, and an expanding cast of characters, each navigating their place within that system.

The Gangster Cat Chronicles builds from the familiar, but quickly moves beyond it, into a world where the stakes are higher, the rules are less visible, and the consequences are very real and dangerous.

The author lives in the UK and continues to develop the series, observing, documenting, and, when required, intervening in matters of feline diplomacy.
